A testimony of Jesus Christ comes
through revelation
13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying,
Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
SCRIPTURE

14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others,
Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and
blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
- Matthew 16:13-17

A testimony of Jesus Christ comes
through revelation
We can learn much about testimony and conversion from the ministry of the Apostle
Peter. As Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, He posed this penetrating
question to His disciples: “Whom say ye that I am?”…As is evidenced in Peter’s reply
and the Savior’s instruction, a testimony is personal knowledge of spiritual truth
obtained by revelation. A testimony is a gift from God and is available to all of His
children. Any honest seeker of truth can obtain a testimony by exercising the necessary
“particle of faith” in Jesus Christ to “experiment upon” and “try the virtue of the word”
to yield “to the enticings of the Holy Spirit” and to awaken unto God…Knowing by
the power of the Holy Ghost that Jesus is the Christ is important and necessary.

Jesus Christ gives prophets and apostles priesthood keys to lead
His Church
To his Apostles, the Savior said, “I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven:
and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou
shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven”.
Within a week of that promise, Jesus took Peter, James, and John to a high mountain. Keys
of the priesthood were bestowed upon them by Moses and Elijah (Elias) under divine
direction.
The Master then reminded his disciples of their sacred calls to the holy apostleship, “Ye
have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you”.
Russell M. Nelson Jesus not only called and ordained men, but he taught them their duties.

3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.
4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let
us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of
the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

“Hear Him”
The manner by which God the Father introduced His Son on several occasions is
significant: “And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water…And
lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” And
again, on the Mount of Transfiguration, “there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This
is my beloved Son: hear him.” When Jesus appeared on the American continent, He was
introduced in the same way by His Father: “Behold my Beloved Son, in whom I am well
pleased, in whom I have glorified my name—hear ye him.” And then nearly two millennia
later, the same words were spoken to the young Joseph Smith: “This is My Beloved Son.
Hear Him!” It is of special significance that whenever Heavenly Father wants to introduce
His Son to us, He commands us to listen—to “hear” the words of Jesus… He is the literal

“The keys of the kingdom of heaven” are on the earth today
The Prophet Joseph Smith said, “I will give you a key that will never rust, if you will stay with
the majority of the Twelve Apostles, and the records of the Church, you will never be led
astray.” The Prophet also stated: “The…Savior, Moses, and Elias, gave the keys to Peter, James,
and John, on the mount, when they were transfigured before him.” Peter, James, and John
conferred the keys of the kingdom of God upon the Prophet Joseph and ordained him to…bear
the keys of his ministry. Keys that pertain to the gathering of Israel, the dispensation of
Abraham, and, indispensably, the keys of sealing were conferred upon the Prophet by Moses,
Elias, and Elijah in 1836.
…The keys given by the Savior to Peter, James, and John, and given by them to the Prophet
Joseph, have not rusted. They will open all spiritual doors of the dispensation of the fulness of

17-18 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb
spirit; And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth
away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.
SCRIPTURE

19 He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you?
bring him unto me.
20-22 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the
ground, and wallowed foaming. And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said,
Of a child. And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any
thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
23-24 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. And straightway the
father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

When seeking greater faith, we can start
with the faith we have
A 14-year-old boy recently said to me a little hesitantly, “Brother Holland, I can’t
say yet that I know the Church is true, but I believe it is.” I hugged that boy until
his eyes bulged out. I told him with all the fervor of my soul that belief is a
precious word, an even more precious act, and he need never apologize for “only
believing.” I told him that Christ Himself said, “Be not afraid, only believe,” a
phrase which, by the way, carried young Gordon B. Hinckley into the mission
field. I told this boy that belief was always the first step toward conviction and that
the definitive articles of our collective faith forcefully reiterate the phrase “We
believe.” And I told him how very proud I was of him for the honesty of his quest.

My faith can work miracles
19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we
cast him out?
SCRIPTURE

20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say
unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this
mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and
nothing shall be impossible unto you.
21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

My faith can work miracles
The Lord understands our mortal weakness. We all falter at times. But He also knows of
our great potential. The mustard seed starts small but grows into a tree large enough for
birds to nest in its branches. The mustard seed represents a small but growing faith. The
Lord does not require perfect faith for us to have access to His perfect power. But He does
ask us to believe…start today to increase your faith. Through your faith, Jesus Christ will
increase your ability to move the mountains in your life…Learn about miracles. Miracles
come according to your faith in the Lord. Central to that faith is trusting His will and
timetable—how and when He will bless you with the miraculous help you desire. Only
your unbelief will keep God from blessing you with miracles to move the mountains in
your life. The Savior is never closer to you than when you are facing or climbing a

mountain with faith…He works miracles today, and He will work miracles tomorrow.
