LESSON :7 TESTING
ELECTRONICS COMPONENTS
VOLTAGE RATINGS

It helps to determine how

much voltahe can be safely
utilized by a particular
device or form of wiring
over the life of the device or
wiring.
RESISTOR
It helps to limits or
regulate the flow of
electrical current in an
electronic circuit.
Resistors can also be used
to provide a specific
voltage for an active such
as a transistor.
the maximum
voltage within which
CAPACITY the manufacturer
specifies that a GIE
device should
operate.
An ampere is the unit used to
measure electric current. Current
is a count of the number of
electrons flowing through a
AMPERES circuit. One amp is the amount of
current produced by a force of one
volt acting through the resistance
of one ohm. (An ohm is a way of
measuring resistance.
DIODE
A diode is a semiconductor
device that essentially acts
as a one-way switch for
current. It allows current to
flow easily in one direction,
but severely restricts current
from flowing in the opposite
direction.
If a resistor is like a cushion that is
CAPACITOR
used to control the flow of
electricity, then capacitors are like
small rechargeable batteries that
store small amounts of charge in
them. Capacitors do two things at
the same time:

They allow AC, or Alternating

Current, to flow through them.
They resist the flow of DC, or
Direct Current, through them.
Here are two scenarios that better
explain what a rsistor does. in both
cases, we will turning on a LED:

Scenario 1- Without Resistor

you have the power supply on one side.
you connect the LED on the other end.
the full force of the electricity hits the bulbs
this overloads the LED, eventually burning it out completely.
Scenario 2- With Resistor.

you have the power supply on one side

you connect this to resistor
 the resistor, in turn, connect to the LED bulb
electricity flows through the resistor and into the bulb
you can control the amount of electricity that needs to
flow to tyhe bulb. as a result, the LED won’t be
overload and won’t burn out.
By doing so, they are able to stabilize almost any
circuit. There are two types of capacitors that are
primarily used:

Polarized capacitors – these have a positive and

negative terminal
Non-polarized capacitors – these do not have any
positive or negative terminals
LIGHT EMITTING DIODE (LED)

LEDs were briefly

mentioned while
describing “Resistors.”
LEDs are just like bulbs,
except that they are
extremely reliable.
TRANSISTOR
Act as a switch or
gate for electronic
signals opening and
closing an electronic
gate many time per
second.
INTEGRATED CIRCUIT (IC)
Are electrical componemnts
that combine or integrate
numeros electrical
components, includinhg the
previously mentioned ones.
one IC act like a transistor,
while another IC can act
like a resistor.
FUSE
Is a friend of the
Circuit breaker as it
helps the breaker in
protecting the
electric equipment
from powerload.
BATTERIES

Act as an source of
electric power through
the electrochemical
cells. eache cells
consists of an Anode
(-) and Cathode(+)
and electrolyte.
