WHAT IS A
BALANCED DIET?
A diet is simply what you eat. The kinds of
foods a person eats daily.
A balanced diet is a diet consisting of a variety
of different types of food and providing
adequate amounts of the nutrients necessary for
good health.

TYPES OF FOOD
•There are different types of foods which each supply your
body with different nutrients you need to have for a
balanced.
•Carbohydrates- breads, pasta, chickpeas, lentils
•Fats- Avocados, nuts, olive oil, chia seeds
•Proteins- meat, fish. Eggs ,dairy
•Fibre -wholegrain cereals, whole meal bread, fruit,
vegetables
•Along with these good foods there a bad foods which
contain a lot of sugar such as sweets, chocolates, cake,
doughnuts etc.,
ANAEROBIC RESPIRATION IN
BACTERIA

• Respiration is a chemical reaction which takes place in all

living cells and releases energy from glucose. Anaerobic
respiration occurs without oxygen and releases less energy
but more quickly than aerobic respiration. Anaerobic
respiration in microorganisms is called fermentation
HOW DOES BACTERIA
GROW?
• Some bacteria thrive in extreme heat or
cold, while others can survive under
highly acidic or extremely salty
conditions. Most bacteria that cause
disease grow fastest in the temperature
range between 41- and 135 degrees F,
which is known as the danger zone.
• Most bacteria grow quickly in warm,
moist places with lots of food.

BENEFITS AND DRAWBACKS OF
BACTERIA IN THE DIGESTIVE
SYSTEM
• Benefits
• Helps your body to break down big food molecules into
useable fuel.
• The bacteria also produce vitamins and help protect the
body from diseases.
• Manufacturing vitamins and training our immune system
• Drawbacks
• Some bacteria can cause disease in humans
• Form a layer on teeth called plaque and cause tooth
decay
• Bad breath
BACTERIA ACID AND PLAGUE
• This sticky film of plague forms on
teeth when bacteria in the mouth mix with
sugary or starchy foods. Tooth brushing
and flossing get rid of plaque. If you don't
remove plaque, it hardens into tartar.
Plaque can lead to cavities, gingivitis
(gum disease) and tooth loss.
• Tooth erosion happens when acids wear
away the enamel on teeth. Enamel erosion
can be caused by the following: Having
too many soft drinks, which have lots of
phosphoric and citric acids. Bacteria in
your mouth thrive on sugar, and they
make acids that can eat away at enamel.
BINARY
FISSION
Most bacteria reproduce
by binary fission. In this
process the bacterium,
which is a single cell,
divides into two identical
daughter cells. Binary
fission begins when the
DNA of the bacterium
divides into two (replicates).
DEFICIENCY DISEASES
• These are diseases when you lack a certain vitamin or
nutrient in your body.
• Scurvy- a disease caused by a lack of vitamin C. It
results in delayed wound healing, internal bleeding,
abnormal formation of bones and teeth
• Anemia- iron deficiency disease. This causes decreased
work output, reduced growth, increased health risk in
pregnancy.
• Rickets- Lack of vitamin D. Causes bone deformities.

VITAMINS AND OTHER
NUTRIENTS
• Vitamin A- helping your body's natural defense against
illness and infection (the immune system) work properly.
Helping vision in dim light, keeping skin and the lining of some
parts of the body, such as the nose, healthy.
• Vitamin C- Helps to protect cells and keep them healthy.
Maintains healthy skin, blood vessels, bones and cartilage. Also
helps with wound healing.
• Calcium-A mineral most often associated with healthy bones
and teeth, although it also plays an important role in blood
clotting, helping muscles to contract, and regulating normal
heart rhythms and nerve functions.
• Iron- Makes red blood cells, which carry oxygen around the
body
