AHADITH

Hadith no 1 and 2
a) Main teachings about what
Muslims believe
• in your answer concentrate on the teaching rather than the text of
hadis
• Definitions must not reuse the words to be defined. E.g. sincerity in
the Hadith beginning ‘Religion is sincerity’ - means the absence of
pretence, deceit, or hypocrisy; believing truly in the heart in the
meaning of actions carried out
• It is particularly important not to repeat the same words in Section A
when answering questions about the set passages.
• The two groups required by the syllabus are the importance of
individual conduct and life in the community. Some Hadith may relate
to both.
b) Explain how Muslims can put these teachings into action

Your answer can relate to an incident from history

of Islam to current times or it can be your abstract
explanation of what practices one can adopt in
the light of the teaching of the hadith
Hadith no:01

‘Religion is sincerity.’ We said: ‘To

whom?’ The Prophet said: ‘To Allah,
his Book, his Messenger, the leaders
of the Muslims and to their common
people.’
(a)  Teachings
• Individual conduct and life in community
• Key word is nasiah wich means sincerity. Following the faith fully with
honesty, dedication, and genuineness is the main teaching.
• No pretense / no hypocracy
• This genuineness is needed by the Muslims in their fundamental beliefs
in Supremacy of Allah , teachings of Quran, Prophet Muhammad pbuh
and towards the leaders and the members of the community.
• “And obey God and obey the Messenger and those charged with
authority among you.” (surah Nissah)
• Who so obeys my commander, obeys me and who so disobeys my
commander disobeys me (Al Muslim)
b) teachings into action
• Variety of ways to practice these teachings
• Showing sincerity to God can be done by implementing the shariah laws in our lives or
submitting to the will of Allah
• Showing sincerity to Quran can be done be regular reading and understanding the teachings
and ponder over the wordings and following its commandment
• Various examples of the sincerity companions showed to the Prophet (persecutions, Donations
at Tabuk expedition)
• As for cooperating with the leader of the community, Muslims should remember the speech of
Abu Bakr on his election as caliph:
• “Help me if I am in the right, set me right if I am in the wrong”
• Similarly, sincerity towards fellows should be expressed by being kind, polite and respectful to
them which will lead a unified and bonded thus stron community.
Hadith 2

None of you believes until he

wants for his brother what he
wants for himself.
(a)  Teachings
• Individual conduct and life in community
• Islam is a religion of social justice. Main teaching is to show kindness
empathy and concern to others as what you would expect of them
• A heart without love and care for the fellow Muslims is devoid of true faith,
& so, genuine faith is linked with affection, care and feelings for the other
members of the community.
• “None of you believes” refers to imperfect faith, and not absence of faith.
This means that any believer might fall prey to a lack of love for fellows.
• All this would lead to stronger Islamic fraternity regardless of geographical
racial and linguistic barriers
• “Believers are a single brotherhood” (Quran)
b) Teachings into action

• Muslims should negate selfishness, promote spirit of sacrifice and love for the
fellow Muslims
• Should develop a sense of collective welfare and make efforts to ensure
comfort and benefits for others as much as for himself:
• “It is more beneficial for one to give his land free to his brother than to
charge him a fixed rental” and:
• True believers should not look down upon others and should not taunt them
or call them by offensive nick names.
• They are also not supposed to break ties with fellow brothers and should take
initiative in re-establishing good relations.
• Some actions such as joining an NGO on human rights or creating awareness
about the suppressed and marginalized groups can be adopted by all Muslims
