There are five fundamental units of gram-

matical structure: morpheme, word,
phrase, clause, and sentence.
What are the two elements of
grammar?
Grammar is traditionally subdivided into two
areas of study – morphology and syntax.
Morphology is the study of how words are
formed out of smaller units, syntax studies
the way in which phrases and sentences are
structured out of words.

tion, and interjection. The part of speech
indicates how the word functions in meaning
as well as grammatically within the sen-
tence.
What is structure of tense?

Tense structure is basically the order

which the components go in a sen-
tence. We're talking subject, object, verbs,
auxiliary verbs etc. The structure tells the
reader/listener which tense the sentence is
in (past, present or future). The verb/verbs
help tell us this information.
