Problem Definition

• Mental health problems among students have become a growing

concern in recent years.
• The stress and pressure of academic performance, social relationships,
and financial burdens have taken a toll on the mental well-being of
many students.
• However, mental health surveillance is currently lacking in
educational institutions, making it difficult to identify and address
mental health issues among students
AIM:

• The aim of the mental health surveillance application for students is to promote
and improve the mental well-being of students by providing a platform for early
identification and intervention of mental health problems
• The application will also provide students with personalized feedback and
recommendations for managing their mental health based on their responses.
• The aim is to empower students with tools and resources to take control of their
mental health, promote positive coping mechanisms, and prevent the escalation of
mental health problems.
• The application aims to create a culture of mental health awareness and support in
educational institutions, where students feel comfortable seeking help and are
encouraged to prioritize their mental well-being.
Literature Survey

1.A study titled "Mental Health Surveillance Among Indian College Students: A Review" by Singh and Kumar
(2018) highlighted the need for mental health surveillance among college students in India. The study
emphasized the high prevalence of mental health problems among students and the lack of awareness and
resources to address them.
2.A study titled "Mental Health Problems among College Students in India: A Review" by Aggarwal and Batra
(2020) reviewed the literature on mental health problems among college students in India. The study highlighted
the need for early identification and intervention of mental health problems and the importance of creating a
supportive environment for students.
3.A study titled "Prevalence of Mental Health Problems among College Students in India: A Systematic Review
and Meta-Analysis" by Jacob and colleagues (2021) conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies
on the prevalence of mental health problems among college students in India. The study found a high prevalence
of mental health problems among students, including anxiety, depression, and stress-related disorders.
4.A study titled "Mental Health Status of Students in Professional Colleges: A Cross-Sectional Survey" by Kumari
and colleagues (2019) conducted a cross-sectional survey to assess the mental health status of students in
professional colleges in India. The study found a high prevalence of mental health problems among students,
particularly stress-related disorders.
Methodology/ Planning of work

• Gantt Chart
Technical details (Hardware and software requirements)
1.Platform and programming language: The application can be developed for web or mobile platforms
using programming languages such as Java, Python, or JavaScript.
2.Front-end development: The front-end of the application can be developed using popular frameworks
such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
3.Back-end development: The back-end of the application can be developed using frameworks such as
Node.js, Django, or Flask. The data can be stored in a relational database such as MySQL or
PostgreSQL or a NoSQL database such as MongoDB or Cassandra.
4.Security: To ensure the security of the application, best practices such as using encryption,
implementing secure authentication and authorization mechanisms, and regular vulnerability
assessments and penetration testing can be followed.
5.Data analytics: The application can be designed to collect and analyze data related to student mental
health, such as demographic data, psychological distress indicators, and behavioral patterns. Data
analytics techniques such as machine learning and natural language processing can be used to extract
meaningful insights from the data.
6.Integration with external systems: The application can be integrated with external systems such as
electronic health records (EHRs), hospital management systems (HMSs), or telemedicine platforms to
enable seamless sharing of information and better coordination of care.
Innovativeness & Usefulness

• New and innovative ways of monitoring and improving the mental

health of students. For example, the application could use cutting-edge
data analytics and machine learning techniques to identify patterns and
correlations in the data collected from students and provide personalized
recommendations for improving mental health.
• Providing a platform that enables students to monitor and track their
mental health status and access relevant resources and support. The
application could offer a range of features such as mental health
assessments, personalized recommendations, access to mental health
professionals, and peer support groups to help students manage and
improve their mental health.
Market Potential & Competitive advantage

• According to a survey conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health and

Neuro-Sciences (NIMHANS), one in five Indian students suffers from mental health
problems. This highlights the need for a comprehensive mental health surveillance
application that can provide students with accessible, affordable, and personalized
mental health support.
• Competitive Advantages:
1. Personalization
2. Accessibility
3. Affordability
4. Data Analytics
5. User Experience
