“It will be as when a man who was going on a journey [a
]
called in his servants and entrusted his possessions to
them. 15 To one he gave five talents;[b] to another, two; to a
third, one—to each according to his ability. Then he went
away. Immediately 16 the one who received five talents went
and traded with them, and made another five. 17 Likewise,
the one who received two made another two. 18 [c]But the
man who received one went off and dug a hole in the
ground and buried his master’s money. 19 After a long time
the master of those servants came back and settled accounts
with them. 20 The one who had received five talents came
forward bringing the additional five.[d] He said, ‘Master,
you gave me five talents. See, I have made five more.
21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, my good and
faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters,
I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your
master’s joy.’ 22 [Then] the one who had received two
talents also came forward and said, ‘Master, you gave me
two talents. See, I have made two more.’ 23 His master
said to him, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant.
Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you
great responsibilities. Come, share your master’s
joy.’ 24 Then the one who had received the one talent
came forward and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a
demanding person, harvesting where you did not plant
and gathering where you did not scatter;
so out of fear I went off and buried your talent in the
25

ground. Here it is back.’ 26 His master said to him in

reply, ‘You wicked, lazy servant![e] So you knew that I
harvest where I did not plant and gather where I did not
scatter? 27 Should you not then have put my money in
the bank so that I could have got it back with interest on
my return? 28 Now then! Take the talent from him and
give it to the one with ten. 29 [f]For to everyone who has,
more will be given and he will grow rich; but from the
one who has not, even what he has will be taken
away. 30 [g]And throw this useless servant into the
darkness outside, where there will be wailing and
grinding of teeth.’
1.Who are the

the parable?
2. What did you
find strange
about the

3. What did the

4. Who symbolizes
the master in the

5. Who
symbolizes the
servants in the
parable?
The talent as a unit of value is
mentioned in the New Testament
in Jesus' parable of the talents
 (Matthew 25:14–30). The use of
the word "talent" to mean "gift or
skill" in English and other languages
originated from an interpretation of
this parable sometime late in the
13th century.
6. What do you think are your talents?
7. Were you able to maximize the talents given
to you?
8. Were you able to put your talents at the
service of others?
9. What do you believe is the purpose of your
talents?
10. What is the simple truth about God’s
providence/gifts?

11. What could complicate it if we do not trust

enough in God’s providence?
Everyone has received...........according
to his ability (Mt. 25:15)
Creation was the first expression of God’s love.
The Creator creates us “in
His image and likeness.”
We are His pro-creators
and co-creators as we use
our talents/gifts at the
service of each other and
creation.
Why was man created after all
others?
Man “intervenes not in order to
modify nature but to foster its
development in its own life, that of
the creation that God intended.”
MAN AND
THE
ENVIRONME
NT
The relationship of man with the
world is a constitutive part of
his human identity.

MAN AND THE UNIVERSE

The tendency towards
an “ill-considered”
exploitation of the
resources of creation
is the result of a long
historical and cultural
process.”
man's pretension of exercising
unconditional dominion over
things
Human beings find themselves
thinking that they are foreign to
the environmental context in
which they live
.

- Pope Paul VI
The
Environment, a
Collective Good
It is a matter of a
common and universal
duty, that of respecting
a common good,
destined for all…
Responsibility
for the
environment, the
common
heritage of
mankind,
extends not only
to present needs
but also to those
of the future
Nature is not a
sacred or divine
reality that man
must leave alone
but it is a gift
offered by the
Creator to the
human community,
entrusted to the
intelligence and
moral responsibility
of men and women
The Environment and the Sharing of
Goods

goods of the earth were

created by God to be used
wisely by all
Creation, which is a reflection of
divine glory aspires to peace.
God created all that exists, and
all of creation forms a
harmonious whole which is good
in every part. (Genesis 1)
“A true ecological approach
always becomes a social
approach; it must integrate
questions of justice in debates
on the environment, so as to
hear both the cry of the earth
and the cry of the poor. . . .
Everything is connected. Concern
for the environment thus needs
to be joined to a sincere love for
our fellow human beings and an
unwavering commitment to
resolving the problems of
society.”

(Pope Francis, On Care for Our

Common Home [Laudato Si'],nos.
49, 91)
St. Francis of
Asisi
Saint Francis invites
us to see nature as
a magnificent book
in which God
speaks to us and
grants us a glimpse
of his infinite
beauty and
goodness.
Laudato Si’ Prayer

All-powerful God, you are present in the whole

universe and in the smallest of your creatures.
You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.
Pour out upon us the power of your love,
that we may protect life and beauty.
Fill us with peace that we may live
as brothers and sisters, harming no one.
O God of the poor,
help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this
earth, so precious in your eyes.
Bring healing to our lives,
that we may protect the world and not prey on it,
that we may sow beauty, not pollution and
destruction.
Touch the hearts
of those who look only for gain
at the expense of the poor and the earth.
Teach us to discover the worth of each thing,
to be filled with awe and contemplation,
to recognize that we are profoundly united
with every creature as we journey towards your
infinite light.
We thank you for being with us each day.
Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle
for justice, love and peace.
