Introduction

On the Philippine island of Mindanao, there is a

deep spring river known as the Hinatuan Enchanted
River or Hinatuan Sacred River. At Barangay Talisay,
Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, it empties into the
Philippine Sea and the Pacific Ocean. Between the
Talisay and Cambatong Barangay limits is where you
may find it. The ambassador Modesto Farolan wrote
a poem named "Rio Encantado" that depicted the
river, giving it the nickname "enchanted river".
 Numerous local stories have been inspired by the
river's distinctive hues and uncharted depths. According
to one legend, fairies gave the river its distinctive tint
by mixing sapphire and jade into it. Additionally,
uncatchable fish have been spotted in the river,
according to local fishermen. Locals claim that the
engkantos that live there are why the river is known as
the Enchanted River. According to their folklore, the
river is guarded by mysterious spirits who haunt it.
