 It is the way you would like to be
or plans to become.

B. Looking-glass self
 Charles Cooley (1902)
- refers to the interactive
process by which we develop an
image of ourselves based on how
we imagine we appear to others.

Three Step Process
 Step 1: We imagine how we appear to
others.

 Step 2: We imagine how others judge


our (imagined) appearance.

 Step 3: We evaluate ourselves


according to how we imagine others
have judged us.

disapprove of your actions.

feel, look, and act.
