HUMAN DEVELOPMENT INDEX (HDI)
• The HDI is a measurement system used by the
United Nations to evaluate the level of individual
human development in each country.
• The HDI uses components such as average annual
income and educational expectations to rank and
compare countries.
• 1 indicates a high level of economic development,
• 0 a very low level.
HISTORY OF HDI
• United Nations Development Programme
reports consist of these human development
reports.
• Pakistani economist Mahbub ul Haq prepared
it with the help of various economists. Nobel
Laureate Amartya Sen of India had also
prominent role in preparing of Human
Development Index (HDI). These reports are
seen from 1990 in UNDP reports.
Dimensions of the Human Development Index
The Human Development Index considers three main
dimensions to evaluate the development of a country:
  1. Long and healthy life

2. Education
 
3. Standard of living
