Overview:
IBM's rich history of discovery and innovation has

brought international recognition. In addition to five Nobel prizes, IBM researchers have been recognized with seven U.S. National Medals of Technology, five National Medals of Science and memberships in the National Academy of Sciences. IBM Research has more than 59 members of the National Academy of Engineering and well over 300 industry organization fellows. IBM's own Frances Allen became the first woman to receive a Turing Award.

Vision:
They have on-going work in a number of fields related

to Computer Vision. Many members of our group are actively working on Video Surveillance, a multi-scale human perception system. They also specialize in Biometrics, identifying people by their fingerprints or facial characteristics and studying the performance measures for similar systems. We continue to work on video browsing using closed caption text, speech recognition, camera motion and face finding. There are several other exciting projects including the Retail Productivity, Driver Assistance, and Rail Safety

Mission:
At IBM, we strive to lead in the invention,

development and manufacture of the industry's most advanced information technologies, including computer systems, software, storage systems and microelectronics.
