The Andaman Islands are an Indian
archipelago in the Bay of Bengal. These roughly 300 islands are known for their palm-lined, white-sand beaches, mangroves and tropical rainforests. Coral reefs supporting marine life such as sharks and rays make for popular diving and snorkeling sites. Indigenous Andaman Islanders inhabit the more remote islands, many of which are off limits to visitors Andaman and Nicobar Islands featuring palm-fringed beaches with spotless stretches of white sands, an uninterrupted presence of peace, and crystal clear turquoise waters all around - Andaman is a true example of what you call 'Tropical Paradise'.Port Blair (on South Andaman Island) is the territorial capital. People and their Culture The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are home to various native communities and settlers. The people on these islands are mainly divided into two categories: the indigenous tribal people and outside settlers. The culture of Andaman and Nicobar is diverse and comprises various native communities and descendants of people who arrived on the island during the colonial period. The island has a mixed culture characterized by the two distinct native populations.The Andaman Islands are home to four ‘Negrito’ tribes – the Great Andamanese, Onge, Jarawa, and Sentinelese. The Nicobar Islands are home to two ‘Mongoloid’ tribes – the Shompen and Nicobarese. The people of Andaman and Nicobar speak many languages. Food The islands are known for many things, one of which is their food. The food here is as special as the beauty of Andaman. Being an Island seafood is a major attraction here. The seafood in Andaman & Nicobar Islands is greatly influenced by the different cultures that came in touch with this region. Their food and cuisine are as different and diverse as the island. The local people in Andaman prefer spicy and tasty food and it is also a major reason for the tourist influx.
