Essential Question
How can real-life problems involving
pattern and design can be modelled and solved?
Formation Standard

Apply the concept of factoring polynomials

in the real life-situation and
manifest accuracy and creativity in designing.
Importance of Factoring in Real-Life
I see factoring in “Pattern Recognition”, that is looking at an expression
and seeing a pattern or something familiar that makes you think this is
probably that kind of factoring technique. It’s like hearing the first three
notes of a song and recognizing right away what song it is. This is very
valuable ability to have to be able to “see” patterns.
Most of our skill in dealing with new situations depends on our ability to
quickly categorize what is similar to things we have seen before and then
focus on what is really new. I believe that any activity that enhance
our skill in recognizing patterns, like factoring increases our ability
to function in “real world” in an intelligent way.

Discussion of the Lesson
A. Factoring by GCF
How to find a GCF of a set of polynomials?
24x + 8x
2
= 8x
Now, let us factor the polynomial?
2
24x + 8x = 8x (3x + 1)

44a – 33a + 11 = 11
Now, let us factor the polynomial?
4 3
44a – 33a + 11 = 11 (4a – 3a + 1)
