Although some historians point to the
country of Nicaragua as the place
where the cake was invented. Others
point to Mexico, since it had similar
recipes to this cake, such as torta
remojada (soaked cake). Another
version indicates that the recipe
emerged at the end of the 19th
century, somewhere in Latin America,
as part of a promotional campaign of
a company producing canned milk in
order to increase sales.
