Motivation
• Victoria's Secret is an American lingerie,
clothing, and beauty retailer known for high
visibility marketing and branding, starting with a
popular catalog and followed by an
annual fashion show with supermodels dubbed
Angels.
• By writing this research paper I would like to
address a few problems concerning this industry,
in hopes of raising awareness on a higher level.
• Some of these issues include:
harsh diets that models must follow
constant comparison between them
lack of personal life and full disclosure in terms
of their privacy norms
extremely high standards that must be reached.
Short History
• Victoria's Secret was founded by Roy
Raymond, and his wife, Gaye Raymond,
on June 12, 1977.
• The first store was opened in the Stanford
Shopping Center in Palo Alto, California.
• The first Victoria's Secret Fashion Show,
held in 1995 in New York, became a
mainstay for the company's image for the
next 23 years.
• By 2006 the Victoria's Secret Beauty
division had reported sales of nearly US$1
billion.
• The international expansion of Victoria's
Secret stores began in 2008.

The Problems Of The Industry
Victoria’s Secret has long been
criticized for a lack of diversity
and objectification of women in
its advertisements and on the
runway of its now-canceled
annual fashion show. A new
report found that the work
environment, from the top
down, was misogynistic and rife
with sexual harassment and
bullying.
