Energy Resource

• The term energy resource refers to any material that can used as basis or
source of energy.
• It is used to generate electricity or power for human work.
Energy Resources

Coventional Non conventional

 it is non renewable Renewable
 Limited quantity Eco friendly nature
 Formed over years Replenished continuously
 Used in industrial and commercial purposes. Less expensive
 Heavy expenditure e.g. solar energy, wind, hydro, ocean, bio…energy
etc.
 E.g. coal , petroleum, natural gas
Alternate Energy Resourse

• It can be defined as the use of source of energy other than traditional fossil
fuel ( oil, coal, natural gas) which are similar in supply and which are
consider harmful to the environment.
• Alternate means different , another or substitution.
• It made from renewable resource
Solar energy

• Solar means sun

• Used to light , heat and cool home and business.
• Technology of Sunlight to energy
• Its power is clean simple and cheap
• 2 main type of energy technology are
i) Photovoltaic
ii) Solar collectors
Wind power

• It is the oldest and proven source of energy for water pumping and probel
ships.
• Density and velocity of wind constitute wind power
• Kinetic energy
Merit

Pollution free and cheap

Economical
Less cost

Demerit

Inconsistancy of wind
Unpreditable
Large scale production not possible
Tidal power

• It is a periodical rise and fall of water

• Ocean tide create large amount of emergy
• Hight tide make turbaine operate and generate energy
Advantages

• Free from pollution

• Independent of seasonal change
• Does not require large area

Disadvantages

 Require more capital cost

 Contionuos power generation not possible
Magneto hydro dynamics(MHD)

• To achieve good conductivity plasma should be heated a thousand degree.

• Plasma at hight temperature is passed through a static magnetic field.
Current is induced and collected through electrode, it withstand with high
temperature of 3000 c
Ocean thermal Energy conservation

• The temperature difference between upper surface warm and cold water in
depth convert to electricity.
• This forms the basis for OTEC system
• Quantity of energy produced is larger than with waves.
Biomass

• The agricultural and forest resource used to produce biomass

• High amount of energy produced from biomass and biowaste.
• Ecofriendly

Geothermal energy

• It is the heat energy from the earth & thermal heat to form geothermal
energy.
• Mane made hot water reservoirs by varying temperature and depth with
surface of earth to produce electricity.
• It is cheap
• Runs with the risk of earthquake.
Piezo Electric Sensor

• Works on the principle of piezoelectricity

• Electricity is generated if mechanical stress applied to a material.
• 2 type of piezoelectric material
• Natural and synthetic material
• E.g naturally available crystal quartz, lithium sulphate
Importance of alternative sources of energy

• Protect the environment

• Helps sustainable fuel system
• Reduce dependence on imported fuel
• Helps to enhance income
• Useful to conserve fossil fuel
• Useful in slowing and reserving climate change
• Use in economical growth
Conlusion

• Thus it can conclude that the alternative source of energy are the future
energy sources that will help in sustaining the environment as well as help in
minimizing the dependency on conventional energy resources. These source
of energy need to be explored more and more.
