Background information of Korea
● Korea is still divided in two today
● The capital of North Korea is Pyongyang
● Capital of South Korea is Seoul
● North Korea is also called the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea
● South Korea is also called the Republic of Korea
● Language spoken in both countries is Korean, also known as Hangul
● In Korea, people are 1 when they are born. Everyone turns a year older on New year
● Surnames come first in a Korean name. Having the same last name is really common
● People prefer titles over names
Background information on Vietnam
● Capital of Vietnam is Hanoi
● Language spoken is Vietnamese
● Lotus is the national flower of Vietnam
● Motorbikes are everywhere
● No legal drinking age

● War began when North Korea invaded the 38th parallel
● U.S. supported South Korea and Soviet Union supported North Korea
● North Korea is pushed back
● China aided North Korea
● President Truman did not want to include Chinese
● Armistice signed in July of 1953
● More than 5 million people died in this war.

● North occupied by Soviet Union, South occupied by US
● War started when Vietnamese communists broke the treaty and attacked
● US worried that more states would become communist

● Many casualties in this war
