BIONICS

The making of Cyberman

Introduction

“There is no lovelier way to thank God for

your sight than by giving a helping
hand
to those in dark.”
Man always wanted to scale new heights of technology
in order to make his life better than the best. His thirst
for sophisticated life has never come to an end. He
always demanded more power, more comfort. In this
quest we present you the world of bionics which
examines the ways in which technology is inexorably
driving us to a new and different level of humanity,
Tran humanism. As scientists draw on nanotechnology,
molecular biology, artificial intelligence, and
innovative bio-materials science, they are routinely
using sophisticated surgical techniques to
implant
computer chips and drug-dispensing devices into
our bodies, designing fully functional man-made
body parts, and linking human brains with
computers to make people healthier, smarter,
and
stronger. In short, we are going beyond what was
once only science fiction to create bionic people
with fully integrated artificial components and it
will not belong before we reach the ultimate
goal of
constructing a completely synthetic human-like
being.
BIONICS
 Hardware or machine parts implanted in the
human body and acting as an interface
between our central nervous system and the
computer or machinery connected to it .

 We can approach this field in two different

angles which are INTERFACES and
PROSTHETICS.
NEURON & CNS
 A neuron has 3 main
parts which are
Soma ,
Dendrites ,
Axon
 The CNS has 3 parts
Periphery ,
Spinal chord ,
NEURON Brain
INTERFACES
 Devices to study brain signals

 The interfaces developed so far are :

1. Visual keyboard
2. Biomuse

 FUTURE : Transmission of information by

human contact (Personal Area Network -- PAN )
PROSTHETICS
 Goal : To connect any mechanical part to
human brain and have it function as a
normal organ
 Bionic Limbs
 Bionic ears
 Bionic eyes
 Bionic senses
 Bionic organs and Bionic tissue
BIONIC LIMBS
 Socket : Electrodes

 Pressure sensors

 Advantages

 Implemented at
research hospitals at
JHMI and MIT
BIONIC EARS
Or

COCHLEAR IMPLANTS
 Working of the
human ear
 Cochlear Implant
 Disadvantages and
Advantages
 Future : Tune to
different radio
stations
BIONIC EYES

 Working of a human eye

 Bionic eye
 Advantages and Disadvantages
 Future : Supervision , Zoom , action replay , Store
FUTURE PROSTHETICS
 Bionic Senses : Attempts to recreate the
sensation of touch (sensation of pain ,
vibration , pressure and temperature)

 Bionic Organs : Bionic heart , Bionic lungs ,

Bionic air filters
 Bionic Tissue
PROBLEMS FACED
 Sensory organs are simple but the entire
sensory SYSTEMS are complex
 Pattern matching of the brain is complex

 Each person’s brain is unique

 Biocompatibility problem
FUTURONICS
 MILITARY : Augmented soldiers
 Entertainment
 Education
 Very soon video conferencing will be a passe
because with this technology you can actually “be
there” as far as your brain is concerned
 Future generations may have the choice to opt
either a bionic body member or a human one

CONCLUTION
• In a more specific meaning, it is a creativity
technique that tries to use biological prototypes
to get ideas for engineering solutions. This
approach is motivated by the fact that
biological organs have been well optimized by
evolution. A less common and maybe more
recent meaning of the term "bionics" refer to
merging organism and machine.
This approach results in a hybrid system
combining biological and engineering parts,
which can also be referred as cybernetic
organism (cyborg). Bionics gives a ray of
hope to the physically challenged people i.e.,
bionic eye, bionic ear, bionic hand, bionic
leg, artificial heart, artificial blood, bionic
suit. It can be used for heart monitoring,
kidney dialysis, reversing blindness and for
many neurological disorders like cerebral
palsy, spinal chord injury etc.
• In short it makes life better.
