Simple Earthquake Sensor
 Introduction:
An earthquake is an unpredictable natural disaster that causes damage to lives and property. It happens
suddenly and we cannot stop it but we can be alerted from it. In today’s time, there are many technologies
which can be used to detect the small shakes and knocks, so that we can take precautions prior to some
major vibrations in earth. Here we are using Accelerometer ADXL335 to detect the pre-earthquake
vibrations. Accelerometer ADXL335 is highly sensitive to shakes and vibrations along with all the three
axes.

 Components:
i) Arduino UNO R3
ii) ADXL335 Accelerometer
iii) Buzzer
iv) BC547 Transistor
v) Resistor
vi) Breadboard
vii) Jumper Wires

 Applications:
i) Early Warning Systems: By detecting earthquake tremors, this sensor can contribute to the
development of early warning systems, allowing people to take necessary precautions before the full
impact of an earthquake is felt.

ii) Structural Health Monitoring: The sensor can be used in buildings, bridges, and other structures to
monitor their response to earthquakes. This data can help engineers assess structural integrity and
improve design strategies.

iii) Seismic Research: Scientists and researchers can use the data collected by the sensor to analyze
earthquake patterns, study fault lines, and enhance their understanding of seismic activity.

 Conclusion:
The simple earthquake sensor built with an Arduino Uno provides a cost-effective solution for
earthquake detection. By combining the power of the Arduino platform and a 3-axis accelerometer, it
enables early warning systems, structural health monitoring, and seismic research. Further
improvements and enhancements can be made to this sensor to enhance its accuracy and sensitivity,
opening up possibilities for a more comprehensive earthquake monitoring system.

Smart Dustbin
 Introduction:
Waste management is a critical aspect of maintaining cleanliness and sustainability in our
environment. Developing a smart dustbin can revolutionize waste disposal by integrating
technology to improve efficiency and convenience. In this presentation, we will introduce a
smart dustbin built using an Arduino Uno microcontroller.

 Components:
i) Arduino UNO R3
ii) HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Sonar Sensor
iii) Led
iv) Jumper Wires
v) Dustbin

June 7, 2023 7
 Applications:
i) Waste Level Monitoring: By measuring the distance between the top of the bin and the
waste using the ultrasonic sensor, the smart dustbin can provide real-time feedback on the
waste level. This information can be used for efficient waste collection scheduling.

ii) Automatic Lid Opening: The smart dustbin can detect the presence of waste or hands
using the ultrasonic sensor and automatically open its lid, eliminating the need for physical
contact.

 Conclusion:
The smart dustbin built with an Arduino Uno offers a technologically advanced solution for
waste management. By incorporating an ultrasonic sensor, servo motor, and Wi-Fi module,
it provides features such as automatic lid opening, waste level monitoring, and data
analysis. This technology promotes convenience, hygiene, and efficient waste management
practices.
