Catalytic Co-pyrolysis of Plastic

Introduction

Catalytic Co-Pyrolysis

Co-pyrolysis is a process which involves two or more materials as feedstock.

Many studies have shown that the use of co-pyrolysis is able to improve the characteristics of pyrolysis oil,

 Increase the oil yield,

 Reduce the water content, and

 Increase the caloric value of oil.

 Reduce the production cost and

 Solve some issues on waste management.
Past Approches

Pyrolysis without catalyst:

• The first method was simple pyrolysis without catalyst.

• Their objective was only to reduce plastic waste in the city/country which lead to the solution of plastic problems in the world.

• All equipment were being selected and manufactured by them.

• Three types of plastics were considered: PP, LDPE and HDPE.

Past Approches

Pyrolysis with catalyst mix with feed:

• The second method was catalytic pyrolysis they used to put both catalyst and feed in the

• Two types of catalysts were selected: bentonite clay and kaolin clay.

• Twelve different runs were carried out, and the highest fuel percentage was acquired from hdpe with and without catalysts.

• The usage of catalysts minimized the formation of wax content in the liquid fuel.
