quantitative method because
the data is presented in This research was a
numerical and descriptive form. quantitative research,
This research involved two which used a
variables correlational design in
explanatory research.

Total Students 71
The sample taken is 3rd semester
students who are learning speaking
online. There are two classes that learn
speaking online, namely classes 3B and
3C, totaling 43 people.

This is a purposive sampling

between students’ attitude in online
speaking class and their speaking ability,
the researcher used Pearson product
moment correlation coefficient using SPSS
25.0. The formula as follows:

r : Coefficient between x and y

N : Number of sample
∑x : Number of independent variable
∑y : Number of dependent variable
∑x² : Number of square of the independent
variable
∑y² : Number of square of the dependent
variable
∑xy : Number of multiplication of the
independent and dependent variables15

RESEARCH DISCUSSION
To prove the result of hypothesis in this research, the researcher calculated the data by the
formulation of hypothesis below :
1. Null hypothesis (Ho)
There is no correlation between students’ attitude toward online speaking class and their
speaking ability of the third semester English education Department student of UINFAS
Bengkulu
2. Alternative hypothesis (Ha)
There is correlation between students’ attitude toward online speaking class and their speaking
ability of the third semester englis education departmen student of UINFAS Bengkulu
The result of Sig is 0.001<0.05. So, the calculation is:
1. Ho is rejected (There is no correlation between students’ attitude toward online speaking
class and their speaking ability of the third semester English Education Department student of
UINFAS Bengkulu)
2. Ha is accepted (There is correlation between students’ attitude toward online speaking class
and their speaking ability of the third semester English education department student of UINFAS
