Main Challenges
 Low Annual Budgetary Allocation
The sector is only receiving funds to carter for fish farming, nothing of
capture fisheries.
 Inadequate Transport
The sector has only two (2) motorcycles running, 1 used by the District
Fisheries Officer and 1 in Lake Chilwa (Mposa Minor stratum). which
means 3 minor strata in the district has no Motor cycles, which makes the
fisheries data collection and extension activities to be difficult.
No boat to conduct fisheries rules and regulation patrols on the lake

Conclusion

Machinga district fisheries sector has a huge potential to

develop and contribute positively to social economic
development of the district. But if the issue of under funding
remains unresolved, the sector will continue lagging behind.
