• Emphysema is a lung disease that damages the alveoli in your lungs. The primary
symptom of emphysema is shortness of breath.

• Chronic bronchitis is a lung condition that destroys the cilia in your airways. Cilia are
hair-like parts (organelles) of cells that move germs and other debris out of your airways
Symptoms of COPD
• The most common symptoms include shortness of breath,
coughing, wheezing, and chest tightness. These symptoms
can make it difficult to perform everyday activities.

•  COPD can also cause anxiety and depression. Many people

with COPD feel isolated and alone due to their condition,
which can further increase their symptoms. It's important for
patients to seek support from loved ones and healthcare
professionals to manage their symptoms and improve their
quality of life.
Precautions from COPD
• Vaccinations: Make sure to get vaccinated against respiratory infections like the flu and
pneumonia, as they can worsen COPD symptoms.

• Never start smoking, and if you do smoke, to quit. Smoking is responsible for up to 8
out of 10 COPD-related deaths, and 38 percent of U.S. adults diagnosed with COPD
report current smoking.

• Workplace Exposures : Certain occupations expose employees to dust, gases, and other
harmful substances that can contribute to COPD. Smelter workers, for instance, are
shown to have an increased risk of COPD compared to other professions.
