Polymers used in our daily life

Product made from polymers are all around us:

clothing made from synthetic fibers, polyethylene cups,
fiberglass, nylon bearings, plastic bags, polymer-based
paints, epoxy glue, polyurethane foam cushion, silicone
heart valves, and Teflon-coated cookware. The list is
almost endless.

Today, both High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and

Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) remain among the
most commonly-used plastics. Both are strong, non-
leaching, and frequently used in food packaging, but
HDPE is less flexible than LDPE.

Polymers relating to SDG’s
The role of plastic concerning the sustainable development goals

Based on a bibliometric analysis and mapping, the trend topics

concerning the role of plastic to achieve the SDGs was observed,
and a discussion was proposed. It is clear the important
participation of plastic in modern society, sustainable
development, and in the success of the 2030 Agenda.
Nevertheless, plastic has not only pros, but some concern cons
which may impact the environment, society, and economy, which
may negatively impact the success of the 2030 Agenda. When
inappropriately disposed of, it may cause socio-environmental
problems, being necessary education and a true commitment of
all the sectors of the society to solve them. The future scenario
was tried to be outlined. Recycling; the circular economy;
education; government regulations; joint action and collaborative
efforts from industry, academia, and government; research and
development of new solutions/materials/recycling routes; and
single-use plastic avoiding are examples of relevant issues
necessary to minimize/avoid problems which post-used plastic
may cause.
