INTRODUCTION

• Essential amino acids are a group of amino acids that are crucial for the human body's proper functioning, growth, and development. The
body cannot synthesize these amino acids on its own, so they must be obtained through the diet. There are nine essential amino acids:

• Histidine

• Isoleucine

• Leucine

• Lysine

• Methionine

• Phenylalanine

• Threonine

• Tryptophan

• Valine
• Including a variety of protein sources in your diet is important to ensure you get an
adequate intake of all essential amino acids. These amino acids play vital roles in building
and repairing tissues, producing enzymes and hormones, and supporting various
physiological processes in the body.
EEAI

• The Essential Amino Acid Index (EAAI) is a measure used to evaluate the protein quality
in food sources. It represents the ratio of essential amino acids (amino acids that the body
cannot produce on its own and must be obtained through the diet) to total amino acids in
a particular protein source. The higher the EAAI value, the better the protein quality of
the food. Different protein sources may have varying EAAI values based on their amino
acid composition.
FORMULA

• EAAI = (Sum of essential amino acid quantities in the protein) / (Sum of

ideal essential amino acid quantities)
• The ideal essential amino acid quantities are based on the FAO/WHO
(Food and Agriculture Organization/World Health Organization)
recommendations for the essential amino acid pattern required for human
protein synthesis.
• If you have the essential amino acid quantities for a particular
protein source, you can use this formula to calculate its EAAI
and assess its protein quality. Let me know if you need any
more specific information or if you have the amino acid
quantities for a particular protein source.
