A special thing of the Sultan Ahmed Masjid is that it is
dubbed the Blue Mosque because of over 20,000
handmade ceramic Iznik tiles that decorate the interior,
featuring many different tulips, rose, carnation, and lily
designs, well lit by 260 windows. The 20,000 blue tiles
adorning the interior were made in Iznik, an area that
was famous during the Ottoman Empire for its expert
production of ceramic tiles. These tiles also gave
themselves to the name of the mosque. The mosque is
most famous for its six minarets, accompanied by one
large dome and eight smaller domes.
The Ending.
In the evening, a large number of tourists and
Turks gather in the park facing the Masjid to
listen the Azan to the evening prayer. The
Masjid is therefore, filled with lights and so are
the hearts of the believers with divine love.
