Surroundings
One of the blessings we received from
God is our planet Earth. Living things and
non-living things can be found on
different parts of the Earth. It is our home,
therefore we need to take care of it.

We live on Earth. It is the only planet where living things can live.
Do you know what covers the Earth’s surface?
What are the things that can be found on Earth?

The Earth and Its Natural Resources

The Earth is our natural environment. It

appears bluish because ¾ or 75% of it is
water.
Most of the Earth’s surface is covered with
water.

The 25% or ¼ of the Earth’s surface is land. It color green, but when
the land is dry it is color brown.
The Earth’s surface is made up of three parts: lands, water, and air.
LANDFORMS
The solid or land part of the Earth is
called lithosphere. It is made up of
soil and rocks. Man, animals, and
plants live on land.

Mountains, hills, plateaus, and volcanoes are highlands while the

valleys and the plains are lowlands.

The tallest mountain in the
Philippines is Mt. Apo.

It is an elevated form of land
lower than a mountain.
Chocolate hills in Bohol is one
of the popular tourist spots in the
Philippines.
VOLCANO
It is a mountain or a hill with
an opening at the top. This opening
is called crater. Mayon Volcano is
one of the Seven Wonders of the
World because of its perfect cone. It
can be found in Bicol.
LANDFORMS
PLATEAU
It is a flat level land on the
top of a mountain.
Example of plateau and the
most visited places in the
Philippines during summer is
Baguio, The Summer Capital of
the Philippines.
VALLEY
It is a low flat land between
mountains.
Cagayan Valley is an example of
this landform.
It is a good place to plant vegetables
because the soil is fertile and the
climate is cool.
LANDFORMS
PLAIN
It is a flat level land. It is
where houses and buildings are
built. The famous plain in the
Philippines is the Nueva Ecija,
“The Rice Granary of the
Philippines.
ISLAND
It is a piece of land
surrounded by water.
Example of this landform is
Boracay in Aklan.
