MULTIMEDIA IN ICT

Multimedia is defined as the computer-controlled integration of

multiple forms of media that include text, graphics, audio,
video etc.
The primary characteristic of a multimedia is the use of more
than one kind of medium to deliver content and functionality.
Online Environment
Being online means being virtually connected to
the World Wide Web that offers a vast environment
of information at your fingertips.
This will then focus on the characteristics of the
environment wherein you are connected – the
INTERNET.
According to Living Internet, a key attribute of the internet is
being connected; it means that you can communicate with all
that it offers.
All of the internet’s technologies – web, newsgroups, e-mail,
mailing lists, Internet Relay Chat (IRC), Multi-User Dungeon
(MUD’s) – enable geographically distributed groups of people to
communicate around the world.
The Internet is the latest and most powerful such invention, with
a current distribution to every corner of this planet, and already
inevitably moving into space.
Online: Immersing on the Internet
The internet is…
A worldwide network of computers
An interconnection of large and small networks around
the globe
One of the most powerful communication tool
Used for business, education, entertainment, government
services and military
Online tools that give the user multi tasking
opportunities and sources of information

Blogs or microblogs
Collaborative tools
Discussion forums
Social networking sites
Virtual worlds
Online databases
Another remarkable feature of the internet is
flexibility on the transfer of data.
The internet follows a client-server architecture. It is
a producer-consumer computing architecture.
A server is a computer loaded with a software
package that provides requested information to
clients.
A client is a software program that contacts to a
server and requests information.
Client-Server Architecture
Web 1.0
It is the “readable” phase of the World Wide Web
with flat data.
Web 1.0 is simply an information portal where
users passively receive information without being
given the opportunity to post reviews, comments,
and feedback.
Web 2.0
It is the “writable” phase of the World Wide Web
with interactive data.
Web 2.0 encourages participation, collaboration,
and information sharing. Examples of Web 2.0
applications are Youtube, Wiki, Flickr, Facebook,
and so on.
Web 3.0
It is the “executable” phase of Word Wide Web with
dynamic applications, interactive services, and
“machine-to-machine” interaction.
Web 3.0 is a semantic web which refers to the
future.
 In Web 3.0, computers can interpret information
like humans and intelligently generate and distribute
useful content tailored to the needs of users.
