    Osteoblasts and osteoclasts are the two main types of bone cells. Osteoblasts are derived from mesenchymal stem cells and form bone by secreting bone matrix proteins. They also regulate osteoclast function. Osteoclasts originate from hematopoietic cells and are multinucleated giant cells that reabsorb bone through a resorption cycle. This cycle involves migration to bone sites, attachment, polarization, dissolution of bone mineral and matrix, and removal of degradation products before apoptosis.
