What is information?

INFORMATION
-are facts provided or learned
about something or someone.

3 Basic Types of Information

primary,
secondary, and
tertiary
Primary source

 Provides direct or firsthand information about an event, person, object, or work


or art.

 They are original materials which have not been interpreted, condensed, or
evaluated by a second party.

 Materials that were created at the time the event occurred or by those who
experienced the event

 Example: diary, interview transcript, oral history interview, films and movies,
Secondary source
Offers an analysis or restatement of primary
sources
Materials which summarize, interpret,
recognize, or otherwise provide an added value
to a primary source
Created after the event; created by someone
Examples:
documentaries, documentary
production, history, encyclopedias,
magazines, biographies, book “on”
the subject, blogs, etc.
TERTIARY SOURCE
Lists, compiles, or indexes primary and secondary information
sources
These source are most often used to look up facts or to get a general
idea about something

Note: some reference materials and textbooks are considered tertiary


source when their chief purpose is to list summarize or simply
repackage ideas or other information
Examples:
Thesaurus, philosophy, atlas,
dictionary, almanacs,
handbooks, indexes, statistics,
guidebooks, directories
1. SPEECH is a spoken expression of ideas,
opinions, etc., that is made by someone who is
speaking in front of a group of people.

EXAMPLE:

2. NEWS is an information that wasn't known
before or current events broadcast over the radio,
television, online or in print media.

Example: The New York Times announcing the


winner of a presidential race.
3. NEWS CASTING is the broadcasting of news
on radio or television.
Tips on news casting:
• Put stress and emphasis on words to give them
meaning
A reporter’s voice affects the meaning of a

 It is important for the reporter to give value and

5. PERSUASIVE SPEECH is a specific
type of speech in which the speaker has a
goal of convincing the audience to accept
his or her point of view.

product or service.
6. TALK SHOW is a television or radio
programming genre structured around the act of
spontaneous conversation. A talk show is
distinguished from other television programs by
certain common attributes.

7. PANEL DISCUSSION is a method of
teaching in which four to eight persons or
students discuss the assigned
topic/problem/issues creatively among
themselves in front of an audience.

Example: group activity


8. DEBATE is a formal discussion on a particular
topic in a public meeting or legislative assembly,
in which opposing arguments are put forward.
