Violations

Is the most minor class of


illegal action. Most
violations are committed by
the team with possession of
the ball, when a player
mishandles the ball or makes
an illegal move.
Calling a Violations

• Blow Whistle

• Raise Arm

• Give Proper mechanic for the violation which

occurs
Directional Signal

• When the ball goes out-of-bounds:

1. Sharply blow your whistle

2. Raise your arm with an open palm

3. Signal Direction of play


Types of Violations
Traveling

Travelling

• Is the illegal movement of one


foot or both feet beyond the
limits outlined in this article, in
any direction, while holding a
live ball on the playing court.
Over and back violation

• An offensive player with the ball


may not cross back over the half-
court line once they have advanced
the ball beyond midcourt.
Palming the Ball/ Carry

• Player rolls his wrist over the


ball in an attempt to gain an
advantage

• A carry is a specific form of


traveling.
Illegal Dribble/Double dribble
Players cannot start a dribble after their first
dribble has ended, or put 2 hands on the ball while
dribbling

Not an Illegal Dribble:

1. Ball has been batted or contacted by opponent

2. loose ball

3. After a shot attempt


Kick Violation

• It is a violation to
INTENTIONALY kick the ball
with any part of the leg or foot

• Results in loos of possession for


the violating team.
Goaltending

• Four Required Elements


1. A shot or a tap
2. downward flight
3. Ball above the level of the
basket
4. the ball has a chance to go in
Time Violations
3 seconds

• A player shall not remain in the opponents' restricted

area for more than 3 consecutive seconds while his

team is in control of a live ball in the frontcourt and

the game clock is running.


8 seconds

Whenever:

• A player in the backcourt gains control of a live ball,

• On a throw-in, the ball touches or is legally touched by any


player in the back-court and the team of that player taking
the throw-in remains in control of the ball in its backcourt,
5 Seconds Violation

• Five seconds violation occurs for :


- Throw-ins
- Closely-guarded
1. Blow your whistle
2. Signal the stop clock violation
3. give 5 second violation mechanic
24 seconds
Whenever:

• A player gains control of a live ball on the playing court

• On a throw-in, the ball touches or is legally touched by any player on the playing
court and the team of that player taking the throw-in remains in control of the ball,

• The team must attempt a shot for a field goal within 24 seconds.

Foul

• A foul is an infraction of the rules concerning illegal personal


contact with an opponent and/or unsportsmanlike behavior.

• Any number of fouls may be called against a team.


Irrespective of the penalty, each foul shall be charged, entered
on the score sheet against the offender and penalized
accordingly.
