1. Do you consider Buzkashi a dangerous sport?

Yes, I do. Because they can fall down and have some series injuries but it is very
funny and popular, the people enjoy it very much at the moment.

2. What do you think of these people?

It is very interesting for them because they have a funny time and there are a lot of
people watching them.

3. Which sport is more dangerous in your country? Why?

Climbing rock because if you fall down you might die immediately, I can´t imagine
so high doing that, but some people love the rick that they take at the moment and
they fell happy too.

Yes, because you have get points to win


2. Sometimes writers let their readers infer or guess part of their meaning. What
connection does the writer want the reader to make in the quote below?

You might think that professional eaters must look like sumo wrestlers. They don´t … What
is their secret? Metal buckets perhaps.

The writers allow to the readers to get involved in the readings, they get part of it and are
more satisfying at the moment.

Finding main ideas and supporting details.

Every paragraph in a reading should have a main Idea. The writer often starts the
paragraph with the main idea. The writer then uses details to explain the main idea.

Write the main ideas of each paragraph in reading 1. Then add one detail from each
paragraph.

Paragraph 1 Main Idea. Most people believe that sports must combine physical activity
and competition.

Detail. The extreme ironing

Paragraph 2 Main Idea. Extreme ironing is pressing clothes in very difficult places.

Detail. The competitors get more points for the difficulty of the location

Paragraph 1 Main Idea. Extreme ironists compete in some amazing places.

Detail. Contestants iron while they are moving in not a good position.

Paragraph 2 Main Idea. There are a lot of ironists all over world.

Detail. The goal of extreme ironists is to have their sport included in the Olympics then
they can use their real names.

Discussion

1. What do you think of extreme ironing and professional eating? Are they sports?
Would you participate in them?

To me it´s very dangerous, but it´s a sport and I wouldn´t like to participate in it.

2. Are there any other sports that you think are silly?
Yes, there are

An activity is not a sport if a judge or group of judges chooses the winner. The competition

No, because you can participate and not be an athlete.

1. Do you agree with the following definition of a sport? Why or why not?

Yes, I do. Because they have to have all the qualities that it says. A human activity that is
competitive has a definite result, requires physical activity and/or physical skill.

2. Would the writer of reading 3 agree with this definition? Why or why not?

Yes, he does. Because the activities require a lot of athleticism, strength, flexibility and they have
to be in a good shape if you´re not in a good shape you can participate but the probabilities of
winning are fewer.
