SOCIETY COURSE SYLLABUS

Course Title: SCIENCE , TECHNOLOGY & S0CIETY

Course Description:
An exploration of the past, present and future of
science and technology in society and the social,
cultural, political, economic and environmental
factors affecting their development, with special
focus on the Philippines.
Course Objective:
To critically explore the interrelationships of
science and technology with other disciplines and
cultures as well as their creative processes; and the
interaction and dynamics of science, technology,
and society towards national development in the
Philippines

Teaching Strategies::
Class lectures through PowerPoint Presentations,
analysis and discussions and submission of
research project and documentary viewing.
Requirements:
Do the assignment and submit on time.
Attend classes regularly and participate in class
discussion.
Pay attention and take notes in class.
Ask questions. There will be no stupid or silly
questions.
Follow instructions for examinations,
assignment and other class outputs.
No cell phones during class lectures. Turn
them to silent mode.
Grading System:
Midterm Grade (MG):
Prelim. Exam. + 2(Midterm Exam) + 4 (Class Standing)

Presentation/Demonstration = 60%
Quizzes/Research and Graded Recitation = 25%
Class/Group Cooperation = 10%
Attendance = 5%___

Lastly, Academic dishonesty will not be


tolerated such as cheating during examinations,
presenting a fake permit and excuse letter not duly
signed by parents. Failure to comply may result to
disciplinary action.

society, and why should people want to
study and learn it? Why should students,
teachers, researchers and other
professionals have interest in the subject?
Primarily, we need some background and
understanding of the significance of
science and technology in the living past
and their importance in the modern world
(Mosteiro,2004)

The first locally produced e-jeepney was launched in 2008, and started to transport
passengers for free in Makati in 2009. Leonardo Salvador Sarao Sr. (April 13, 1921 –
July 31, 2001) was the founder and owner of the Sarao Motors, a company known for
designing, manufacturing and selling the jeepney, the most popular mode of
transportation in the Philippines
Dr. Fe del Mundo invented a bamboo medical incubator in
1941. She was the first woman to attend Harvard Medical
Schools.
