• Kipling was born on 30 December 1865 in Bombay,
British India. But at the age of 6, his parents sent
him and his sister to study in England. Kipling had
many negative memories about these years, since
the owner of a private boarding house, Madame
Rosa, often applied physical punishment to
children, which caused Joseph Rudyard to suffer
from insomnia until the end of his life.
• As a child, Kipling spoke better Indian than English.
He spent a lot of time with Indian nannies and
servants, listening to fairy tales and stories that
they told in their native language.
• Rudyard and his wife Carolina worked in the Red
Cross during the First World War. The war took
Kipling's son, so after its end, Kipling devotes himself
to working in the War Graves Commission.
• He had a personal dislike for the Nazis because they
stole their symbols from the ancient peoples.Few
people know, but on many books by Rudyard Kiplig,
which were published before 1935, the cover was
decorated with a swastika - a symbol of good luck in
India.
• In the last years of his life, Rudyard Kipling lived so
secluded that a message appeared in one of the
newspapers about his death. The writer replied
immediately: "I just found out that I was dead,"
Kipling wrote in response. "Please remember to
remove me from your subscriber list."
