DEPRESSION
Depression is a mood disorder that causes a
persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest.
Also called major depressive disorder. It affect
how you feel, think and behave and can lead to a
variety of emotional and physical problems.
WHAT ARE THE CAUSES ?

• Normal process of maturing


• Failure of school
• Early childhood trauma
• Death of loved one
• Independence conflict with parents
• Inherited trait
• Bullying
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS ?
• Teen depression signs and symptoms
include a change from the teenagers
previous attitude and behavior.
• Depression symptoms can be classified into
two : Emotional changes and Behavioral
changes
EMOTIONAL CHANGES
• Feeling of sadness
• Frustration or feeling of anger
• Feeling hopeless
• Loss of interest
• Frequent thoughts of death, dying or
suicide
BEHAVIORAL CHANGES
• Tiredness and loss of energy
• Insomnia or sleeping too much
• Use of alcohol or drugs
• Social isolation
• Poor school performance or frequent
absences from school
• Self harm
• Suicide attempt

PREVENTION
• Take steps to control stress
• Practice self care
• Reach out for friendship and social support
• Get treatment at earliest sign of a problem
