Augustinian Prayer Before the Class
Leader: When we live in unity…
All: How good and pleasant it is.
Leader: Pray for us, Holy Father Augustine
All: That we may dwell together in peace
Leader: Let us pray
All: God, our Father, your Son promised to be present in
the midst of all who come together in His name. Help us to
recognize His presence among us and experience in our
hearts the abundance of Your grace. Your mercy and peace,
in truth and in love. We ask this through Christ, our Lord.
Amen.

(2) Chemical Safety Rules
l. Do not directly touch any chemical with your bare hands.
m. Never use a metal spatula when working with peroxides. Metals
will be decomposed explosively with peroxides.

(2) Chemical Safety
q. Use the laboratory chemical fume hood when
Rules
there is a possibility of release of toxic chemical
vapors, dust or gases. When using the hood, the
sash opening should be kept at a minimum to
protect the user and to ensure efficient
operation of the hood.
r. Keep your head and body outside of the hood
face. Chemicals and equipment should be
placed at least six inches within the hood to

NFPA Hazard Diamond
What is the NFPA Hazard Diamond?

• The NFPA 704 Diamond,

commonly referred to as the
NFPA Hazard Diamond, provides a
system for identifying the specific
hazards of a material and the
severity of the hazard that would
occur during an emergency
response.
• The system addresses the health,
flammability, instability, and
special hazards presented from
short-term, acute exposures that
could occur as a result of a fire, spill,
or similar emergency.

TEST TUBE
• A thin, cylindrical
container,
• usually made of glass
• Used to hold and mix
liquids.

measuring cups or flasks.
• This is because volumetric flasks
can hold a precise amount of
liquid.

Beaker
• A glass container with a
pouring lip.
• Used to hold, mix or
heat substances.

Prepared By: RAQUEL D. ESTORQUE MILE-PHYSCI

Watch Glass
• A watch glass is just a round
piece of glass that is slightly
concave/convex (think of a lens).
• It can hold a small amount of
liquid or solid.
• They can be used for
evaporation purposes and also
can function as a lid for a beaker.

container, such as
beaker on a ring stand
while it is being
heated.

Ring Stand
Used to hold or clamp
laboratory glassware
and other equipment
in place, so it does not
fall down or come
apart.

• The purpose of a chemical

fume hood is to prevent
the release of hazardous
substances into the general
laboratory space
• by controlling and then
exhausting hazardous
and/or odorous chemicals.
