Galvanic machine
History
• The galvanic current is named after Luigi
Galvani, who spent his life studying electric
currents. In 1791, he used these electric
currents to twitch the legs of a frog. The results
of his experiment led scientists to discover
further insight into the uses of the galvanic
current. Galvanic treatments have been used
for more than 50 years primarily in Europe and
now are gaining popularity in the United States.
Introduction
• Face galvanic machine converts alternating current into
direct current thus ions flows in single directions .They
produce beneficial effects on the skin when applied .
• Galvanic machine produces two significant reaction in
aesthetic applications:
1. Chemical reaction (disincrustation or anaphorosis )
2.Ionic reaction (iontophorosis )
• Each reaction has its own beneficial effects and can be
used for various aesthetic purposes
Benefits of the Galvanic Machine

• The promoted benefit of the galvanic machine

is its ability to reduce wrinkles. Promotions
indicate that those using the machine noticed
tighter and smoother skin after 10 minutes of
treatment. Promotions also indicate the
machine can reduce cellulite and revitalize
scalp and hair by unclogging pores and reviving
follicles, thus allowing hair growth.
Indications
• Tanning
• Pigmentation
• Fine lines
• Wrinkles
• Passive acne
• chubbiness
Contraindications
1.Local contraindications :
• Sensitive skin
• Skin disorder
• Active acne
• Cuts and wounds
2. General physiological :
• Pregnancy
• Menstruation
3. Pathological
• Epilepsy
• Uncontrolled diabetes and hypertension
• Serious disease like coronary diseases ,organ failure
• Impants :electronic device ,pace makers ,dental ,orthopaedics
Protocol /precaution
for all electric machines
1.Client must remove metal objects at least from
face ,ear and neck
2.Therapist must remove all belongings from hands
and forearm
3.Client must not come in contact with any other
metal objects or skin to skin with other person
during the procedure .
4.Electrodes must be removed from skin when
machine is on which can cause shock and burn
Disincrustation
This is the process of deep cleansing the pores
of the skin using galvanic currents .
Due to exposure to pollution ,dust, dirt and
application of skin products skin clogs and there
is blockage of sebum secretion .
These may lead to conditions like acne and
comedones
Process
• Liquefies the oily substance and facilitates extraction of the
blocks or impurities
• Mechanism:
Skin naturally contain small amount of salt and water
Under the influence of galvanic current the salt and water
chemically interact to form alkali and acid and vice a versa
NACL +H2O = HCL +NaOH
NaoH is known as lye(soapy substance ) which helps in liquefying
the oily substance this process is known as Emulsification .
Acids and alkali facilitates extraction of impurities from the pores
Procedure
• 1.After deep cleansing acid base electropositive solution is
placed on skin preferable or which remain on surface rather
than get absorb
• 2. Switch on the machine
• 3.Client holds the positive electrodes in hands i.e, is positive
polarity
• 4.Asthethician uses pair of negative polarity the electrodes
are rolled on the face for few minutes with optimum intensity
• 5.Switch off the machine
• 6.Wipe out the solution applied .

Iontophoresis
This is the process of introducing water soluble product into the
skin with electric current .
This process is used for facilitates or enhancing effects of skin
care products .
Mechanism :
Generally the products used are electropositive on application
of galvanic current positive ions are produced from the surface
of electrodes
These + ions repel and push the positive ions of products
deeper into the already open pores .
Thus enhancing effects of products.
Procedure
1. After deep cleansing the required skin care product is applied
2. Machine is switched on
3. Intensity set on minimum
4. Negative polarity is selected
5. Client is ask to hold positive polarity and the negative electrode are
rolled all over the face for 8 min
6. These helps in open up pores and extracts impurities
7. Machines is set on positive polarity and electrodes are rolled all over
the face for 2 minutes
8. These helps in pushing skin care products deeper into open pores
and close the pores completing one cycle of 10 minutes procedure
9. Two more cycle can be repeated in same session to complete
procedure for 30 minutes .
