Accidents and emergencies

 An acident in a workplace is a physical or mental injury


following an incident or exposure

 If you accidently get injured in the workplace,the injury is not


necesserarily caused by your work. For example : you are
getting up from a chair and suddenly got a strain in your neck.
Types of accidents in workplace

 Slips trips and falls: common accidents in workplace are


slipping on wet floors or you likely encountered slippery tiled
surfaces. These accidents can happen in any work
environment and the injuries sustained can range in severity.
Being hit by falling objects
 : At a workplace ,it may happen some objects may fall on
you from shelves or out of the cupboard , causing some
nasty injuries
Crashes and lacerations
 Accidents resulting in crash or impact injuries are quite
frequent at work . Therefore it is up to employees to
ensure that seatbelts and other safety precautions bothn
in place and is used appropriately.
Inhaling toxic fumes

 Those of us who work with hazardous chemicals may be at


risk of skin or eye reactions as well as potentially more
serious injuries when exposed to them without protection
Fights at work

 Simering workplace tensions can bubble under for months


or even years before spilling over into physical
confrontation. Fights in the workplace can , unsurprisingly
result in nasty injuries .
Exposure to loud noise

 Many industrial workers are continuously exposed to loud


noises while at work especially at work. Industrial deafness
can also result in major compensation payouts further along
the line. So its very much in employers interest to nip this
particular problem in the bud . Safety measures such as ear
protection can do much to prevent it.
Handling accidents
During a fire

On hearing the fire alarm


 Close all the windows ,doors and switch off non-essential services
 Walk to the nearest assembly point
 Follow the emergency signs
 Escape routes should be lit by emergency lighting so that people can use
them safely if an emergency occurs
 Don’t re enter the building until permission is given by the person in
charge of the evacuation
 If the fire is small , but only if you are trained to do so use fire
extinguishers to attempt to put the fire out
