What are the types of Plate boundaries?

WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF CONVERGENT
BOUNDARY?
OCEANIC-CONTINENTAL
TRENCH

A trench is a type of
excavation or
depression in the
ground that is generally
deeper than it is wide
and narrow compared
with its length
SUBDUCTION ZONE
 Subduction is a geological process
in which the oceanic lithosphere
and some continental lithosphere
is recycled into the Earth's mantle
at convergent boundaries. Where
the oceanic lithosphere of a
tectonic plate converges with the
less dense lithosphere of a second
plate, the heavier plate dives
beneath the second plate and sinks
into the mantle.
OCEANIC-OCEANIC
ISLAND ARC
Island arc is a long,
curved chain
of oceanic islands
associated with intense
volcanic and seismic
activity and orogenic
(mountain-building)
processes.
CONTINENTAL-CONTINENTAL
WHY THERE IS NO VOLCANO IN
CONTINENTAL-CONTINENTAL CONVERGENCE
 Subduction Volcanoes form when the volatiles
in them melt the rock at depth, and the only
way those volatiles actually get there is
through..well..subduction. One plate dives
under another, bringing with it things like
water that eventually precipitate out and
form an area of hotter magma compared to
the surrounding mantle. This rises to form
volcanoes.
 But in a convergent boundary, where plates
get pushed upwards instead of one being
forced down, no volatiles are dragged down
into the mantle, so no volcanoes form. You get
mountains..like the Alps and Himalayas..but
no volcanoes.
DIVERGENT BOUNDARY
RIFT VALLEY
A rift valley is a linear shaped lowland between several
highlands or mountain ranges produced by the action of
a geologic rift. Rifts are formed as a result of the pulling
apart of the lithosphere due to extensional tectonics. .
The linear depression may subsequently be further
deepened by the forces of erosion. More generally the
valley is likely to be filled with sedimentary deposits
derived from the rift flanks and the surrounding areas. In
many cases rift lakes are formed. One of the best known
examples of this process is the East African Rift.
MID OCEAN RIDGE
 The most extensive rift valley is located along the crest of the
mid-ocean ridge system and is the result of sea floor spreading.
Examples of this type of rift include the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and the
East Pacific Rise.
TRANSFORM PLATE
BOUNDARY
A transform fault is a type of strike-
slip fault wherein the relative horizontal
slip is accommodating the movement
between two ocean ridges or other
tectonic boundaries. They are connected
on both ends to other faults.
A transform
boundary causes a
fault between two
plates of the
lithosphere, which
will slide past one
another. This motion
does not create or
destroy crust and will
cause earthquakes,
but no volcanoes.
