Definition:
something that is created and should be seen
by people, hence the name “visual”. It is a type
of art that can be seen by people in the history
of time.
refer to work that is enjoyed entirely, or mostly,
through the eyes.

BUST OF NEFERTITI BY THUTMOSE (1345 BCE)
This painted limestone bust, now in the
Neues Museum in Berlin, is a beautiful
portrait of Nefertiti, the Great Royal Wife of
the Egyptian pharaoh Akhenaten. Found in
the workshop of an artist named Thutmose,
his iconic rendering made Nefertiti a
symbol of ideal feminine beauty for
centuries to come.
What is the purpose of visual
art?
Visual art is a fundamental component
of the human experience reflecting the
world and the time in which we live. Art
can help us understand our history, our
culture, our lives, and the experience of
others in a manner that cannot be
achieved through other means.
2D Art vs. 3D Art
The major division in visual art is between
two-dimensional works (2D)
and
three-dimensional ones.(3D)

two dimensions. 2D artforms can include
