Epicycloid

 An epicycloid is a curve traced by a point on the circumference of a

circle which rolls along another circle outside it, without slipping.
 The fixed circle on the outside of which the generating circle rolls is
called the directing circle or base circle.

 Applications: Rotary pumps, Blowers and superchargers.

A circle of diameter 50 mm rolls on the outside of another circle of diameter 180 mm
without sliding. Draw the path traced by a point on the smaller circle for one complete
revolution. Draw the tangent and normal to the curve at a point 115 mm from the centre
of the director circle Question Bank: Problem No: 7
