Documenting/Explanations in Sketchbooks & Blogs GENRE

EVIDENCE OF:

• Short definition of Genre

• A range of collected genres
photographic images. Minimum of 10
• Mind map of a wide range of genres

KEYWORDS/QUESTIONS
• How do we organise a subject as
complex as photography?
• Category, Group, Genre
• Which genre’s are considered old?
• Which are ‘borrowed’ and from where?
• Which ones are specific to
photography?- Photojournalism

Sample text:

Photography is a very complex subject. It can be

arranged by Genre. Genre is a category or specific type
of photography. For example Fashion, Portrait, War and
Street. Here are some collected examples of a range of
genres.
‘Borrowed’ Genre’s are the ones that have exisited long
before the invention of the camera and used by artists-
these are Portrait, Landscape & Still Life
TASK

1. Create a mind map of a range of different

photography genres (like this one on the
left)

2. Choose 2-3 different coloured pieces of

paper and cut into chunky strips. Write on
strips of coloured paper the names of each
genre- one on each strip in black pen and
capital letters

3. Cut-up the genres on coloured paper in

half or at different points in the word and
then combine them with some of the other
strips to create new words (like the image
at the bottom)

4. Using the photobooks we are then going to

find the photographs that match the
genres and position the pages in different
ways to photograph the ‘new genre’
HOME LEARNING TASK
Choose one photography genre & one
photographer from that genre and produce
a double page of research.

This should include:

• High quality printed/uploaded images.

• Keywords- Visual elements

Image Analysis-Choose one specific

photograph to talk about. Where it was
taken, lighting used, when it was shot, what
is the concept behind the shot, was it taken
inside or outside, what do you think about
the work? Why have you chosen this
photograph to talk about?

Whilst we don’t have books or blogs- collect

images in a folder/usb/phone
and research can be typed or handwritten
ready to transfer.

This work is due on Friday 24th Sept

You can upload to teams or bring into
lesson
Think carefully about:

• Presentation & layout-

how might you arrange
your selection of images?
Size, placement, text
wrapped around?

• Clear title of the

photographers name

• Key information you have

collected- written in
paragraphs or bullet
points

• Key words highlighted or

underlined
