COMMUNICATION
BACKGROUND
• As communication we can define the exchange of information, thoughts and
feelings among people using speech or other means.
• Therapeutic practice involves the oral communication of public health
officials and nurses on the one hand and the patient or his relatives on the
other.
• It is a two way process.
• The patient conveys their fears and concerns to their nurse and helps them
make a correct nursing diagnosis.
• The nurse takes the information and in turn transmits other information to
the patient with discretion and delicacy as to the nature of the disease and
advises with treatment and a rehabilitation plan for health promotion
DEFINITION

• Therapeutic communication is
interpersonal communication between
nurse and client that is done
consciously when the nurse and client
influence each other and gain shared
experiences that aim to help overcome
client problems and improve the
client's emotional experience finally
achieve the client's recovery.
Based on the definition of therapeutic communication,
the following are the goals oftherapeutic communication

client/patient.
• Improve the client's emotional
experience.
• Reach the expected cure rate.
Uses of Therapeutic Communication

• Is a means of fostering a good relationship between


patients and staff health.
• Knowing the behavior changes that occur in individuals
or patients.
• Knowing the success of health actions that have been
carried out.
• As a measure of patient satisfaction.
• As a benchmark for action and rehabilitation complaints.
