CASTING DIVISION
MBD (Machine Building Division)
Machine building division is very important
division of ISGEC and it manufactures Press
components and as well as sugar Mill parts . It
is sub-divided into following shops:

• FABRICATION SHOP
• MACHINE SHOP
• ASSEMBLY SHOP
• QUALITY SHOP
FABRICATION SHOP
In this shop thick sheets of mild steel are cut, welded and bent according to the required
design. For the cutting of plates and sheets gas cutting and plasma cutting technique is made use of. Then
different cut parts are joined together with the help of welding.
There are two cutting methods
A) Gas cutting- Commonly used is an oxygen-acetylene flame gun. The acetylene pressure is 0.01 to 0.12
MPa, and the oxygen pressure is 0.50 to 1.0 Mpa. And the metal that burns in cutting then flows out of the
cut as an oxide slag.
B) Plasma cutting- A Plasma Cutting Machine operates by using ionized gas (plasma) to cut through
conductive materials. It involves a power supply, gas flow, plasma generation, a plasma torch, and the cutting
process.

The Maximum
Cutting Capacity of
ISGEC IS 300mm.
GAS CUTTING PLASMA CUTTING
Some welding techniques
• MIG Welding
Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding is an arc welding process
that uses a continuous solid wire electrode heated and
fed into the weld pool from a welding gun.
In this argon is

• Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)

Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) is a joining process that
involves the formation of an electric arc between a
continuously fed electrode and the workpiece to be
welded. A blanket of powdered flux surrounds and
covers the arc and, when molten, provides electrical
conduction between the metal to be joined and the
electrode. It also generates a protective gas shield and a
slag, all of which protects the weld zone.
• Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)

The SMAW process is a manual welding process whereby an

arc is generated between a flux-covered consumable electrode
and the workpiece. This process is well known for its
versatility because it can be used in all welding positions, and
in both production and repair situations.
Machine Shop
Machine shop is the main work station. Here various machining operations are carried out to produce
different parts of presses.

There are two division of machine shop

a) Machine shop-I Heavy Work Division

b) Machine shop-II Light Work Division

Various Machine Employed at Machine Shop

1. SKODA horizontal boring

2. SWIFT Lathe
3. H.M.T Radial Drilling Machine
Assembly Shop
The last stage in the machine building division, the various components for the construction of a press is
collected here and the final assembly of the press is done.

The shop is divided in two zones of area one is the pit area and the other is outer area. Presses greater in
size and height are assembled in the outer area and those normal in size in the pit area.

Each press is assembled according to the requirement of the customer. The assembly requires two broad
machine parts

• Parts fabricated by ISGEC i.e. The frame and some other components.

• Parts being imported from outside that are parts like modules and brake and
gear system and oil lubrication unit.
HYDRAULIC PRESS
MACHINE

A hydraulic press machine is a device that uses hydraulic fluid to

generate large amount of force on a small surface area for metal
processing.

It is typically used in metalworking industries for sheet metal

operations such as drawing, deep drawing, punching, blanking.

A hydraulic press machine is a type of machine that utilizes hydraulic

fluid to generate a compressive force.
It is mainly composed of a frame, base, power system, and control
system.

The hydraulic press machine is mainly driven by a hydraulic cylinder

and operates based on Pascal’s law.
In the hydraulic press machine, the piston exerts pressure on the
fluid, which in turn generates a mechanical force.
