SUBSTATION
A substation is a part of an electrical
generation, transmission, and distribution
system. Substations transform voltage
from high to low, or the reverse, or
perform any of several other important
functions.
Types of Substation
Step-up Transmission Substation.
Step-down Transmission Substation.
Distribution Substation.
Underground Distribution Substation.
Classification of Substations by Operating Voltage

High Voltage Substations (HV

Substations) – Involving voltages
between 11 KV and 66 KV.
Extra High Voltage Substations –
Involving voltages between 132 kV and
400 KV.
Ultra High Voltage – Operating voltage
above 400 KV.

Powergrid, a central sector PSU, has decided to

set up a 1200/400KV Substation at Deoli,
1200KV is the highest voltage proposed in
India.
Powergrid will lay a 380 km long 1,200 KV
transmission line from Deoli to Aurangabad in
First phase,In the next phase,it will construct a
400/1200KV SS at Deoli then a 1200/400KV
Substation at Aurangabad.
1100KV AIS
What is AIS?
AIS
An air-insulated substation (AIS) is one
where the main circuit potential is
insulated from the ground by air using
porcelain or composite insulators and/or
bushings.
What is GIS?
GIS
Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) is the
name for a unit that houses these
components and circuits in a single gas
tank with a compact footprint.
Which Gas is used in GIS?
Gas used in GIS
Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), which is the
preferred gas for use in gas-insulated
switchgear (circuit breakers, disconnect
switches, etc. for high-voltage electrical
circuits), has a very high global warming
potential, and there is a large international
effort to find alternative gases.

Control Room Building (CRB)
A control room or operations room is a
central space where a large physical
facility or physically dispersed service can
be monitored and controlled.

GAS INSULATED SUBSTATION
BUILDING (GIS BUILDING)
Gas insulated substation (GIS) consist of
components where active parts on high
voltage potential are located in the middle
of the aluminium alloy pipes and held in
this location by epoxide resin insulators.
GIS can save up to 90% of space
compared with air insulated substation. It
is particularly suitable for indoor and
outdoor applications

Transformer Foundation
The common transformer
foundation comprises a raft, a plurality of
strips of H-shaped steel and fillers,
wherein the raft is buried into the bottom
of a main transformer oil basin; one plane
of each H-shaped steel is fixed on the raft;
the other plane of each H-shaped steel
stretches.

Tower Foundation
Tower foundation. The foundation is the
name given to the system which transfers
to the ground the various steady state
(dead) and variable (live) loads developed
by the transmission tower and conductors.

Equipment Foundation
Equipment foundations are special types
of foundations required for machines,
machine tools and heavy equipments
which have wide range of speeds, loads
and operating conditions.

CABLE TRENCH
RCC cable trenches are used for efficient
laying of cables, electric wires and other
connecting cables without taking any time
consuming construction method for laying
the cables or to erect poles with product
ranging from 600mm x 600mm to
2000mm x 2000mm.

BURNT OIL PIT
Burnt Oil pits are required to collect the
transformer oil – which generally comes
out from the transformer because of
leakage overflow or sometimes heavy
draining out of oil.

FIRE WALL
Transfomer fire wall ensures protection
of important corporate assests
and fire from spreading to
adjacent transformers.

Anti termite Treatment
An anti-termite treatment is a pre-and
post-construction chemical process that
protects a structure against subterranean
termites by treating the soil, masonry,
wood, and electrical fixtures.
Anti termite Treatment
Anti weed Treatment
Glyphosate is currently the most used
systemic herbicide. Soil-borne herbicides
are applied to the soil and are taken up by
the roots of the target plant. Pre-emergent
herbicides are applied to the soil and
prevent germination or early growth of
weed seeds.

Gravel/Stone filling
Why We Use Stone in Outdoor
Electrical Substation?
Gravel/Stone filling
First of all, we use stone in our electrical
substation for reducing the Ground
Potential Rise (GPR) and in electrical
engineering, it also called Earth
Potential Rise (EPR) and it occurs when
a large current flows to earth through
earth grid impedance.
Gravel/Stone filling
Stone increase the resistance of soil, for
this reason, step potential, and the touch
potential limit decrease. When people are
working in substations stone reduces the
possibility of electric shock during work.
Rain water Harvesting
The process of rainwater harvesting
involves the collection and the storage of
rainwater with the help of artificially
designed systems that run off naturally or
man-made catchment areas like- the
rooftop, compounds, rock surface, hill
slopes, artificially repaired impervious or
semi-pervious land surface.

Recharge pit
A recharge pit allows the rainwater to
replenish groundwater by recharging the
underground aquifers. It can be built to
recharge a borewell or just to help the
water infiltration in an area.
