FUELS AT AIRFIELD FUELLING STATIONS
RECEIVING LINES
• Dedicated receiving hose and pipelines shall be used for receiving product.
• Pipelines and pump manifold shall positive grade segregation
• Box strainers of 60 mesh and Micro Filter of 10 micron rating or finer shall be
used in receiving line
• Strainers and Micro filters shall be drained daily before start of operations or
before start of each shift
• Box strainers shall be cleaned monthly. Micro Filters shall be inspected yearly
and shall be changed:
1. After 3 years of use or the periodicity specified by the manufacturer
whichever is earlier or
2. When the pressure differential reaches 15 PSI or
3. When the pressure differential drops suddenly at same flow rate.
PROCEDURE FOR RECEIVING
PRODUCTS
• SOP for receiving/ decantation of TTs is given in detail in Work
Instruction -1 of QHB
1. PDN, QCRC, Excise Invoice, PESO documents, all RRO
documents shall be checked.

• ATF tanks shall be provided with two manholes suitably to facilitate
gas freeing, internal inspection and cleaning of tanks.
• All welding within the tanks shall be continuous. No spot welds shall be
permitted. Weld heads at the bottom of the tanks shall be grounded off
flush with the surface of the tank.
• All horizontal aviation tanks shall be provided with minimum 1:60
slope. A sump shall be provided at the lowest point in the tank with
adequate means to withdraw accumulated water.
• A stainless steel mesh of 60 mesh rating shall, however be provided
with free vents.
Contd…
Contd…
• Epicoated storage tank at Aviation Fuel Stations shall be cleaned once
in three years if inlet to the tank is fitted with 5 micron or finer filter
elements. In case the tank is fitted with 10-micron filter elements,
cleaning shall be done once in two years.
• Chemicals/Detergents shall not be used for cleaning.
• The date of final boxing up shall be considered as tank cleaning date
• The first batch of product received after tank cleaninq shall be tested
for test C, and product shall be released only after it passes the test.
• Settling time to be given after receiving product
Horizontal tank 1 hour
Vertical tank 2 hours
• Tank bottom sample of Jet A-1 shall be tested for microbiological test
once a year.

• In the event, tank cleaning date coincides with the date for carrying out
microbiological test or if the tank is being taken up for cleaning during
which period the microbiological test falls due, the date of
microbiological test shall be advanced and the samples shall be taken
before emptying out the tank.
DELIVERY SYSTEM
• Delivery lines shall be positively segregated.
• A filter/water separator of 5-micron rating or finer as per API/EI
standards shall be installed on the delivery system for each product. This
filter shall be installed at the farthest possible end of the delivery system.
• FWS shall be inspected yearly and shall be changed:
1. After 3 years of use or the periodicity specified by the
manufacturer
whichever is earlier or
2. When the pressure differential reaches 15 PSI or
3. When the pressure differential drops suddenly at same flow rate.
REFUELLERS
• Refuellers shall be bottom loaded.
• After filling, product shall be settled for at least 10 minutes. Then a sample shall
be drawn from refueller tank bottom and checked for Test F.
• After heavy rains and washing of refueller, a tank bottom sample shall be tested
for Test F.
• Each refueller tank shall be internally cleaned once a year. Chemicals/Detergents
shall not be used for cleaning.
• Filter Elements / Monitors installed on the refuellers and hydrant dispensers
shall be replaced:
1. After 1 year of use or the periodicity specified by the manufacturer
whichever is earlier or
2. When the pressure differential reaches 15 PSI or
3. When the pressure differential drops suddenly at same flow rate.
• The filtration system of the Refuellers shall be subjected to Millipore
Test by gravimetric method, once in three months and colorimetric
method once in every month.
