What is the Taught Curriculum?
 Also known as Operational curriculum

 The Taught Curriculum is the curriculum that is actually

delivered by the teacher to the students

 Itis “The delivered curriculum” ; a curriculum that an

observer sees in action as the teacher teaches.” (Glatthorn,
A.A., Boschee, F., Whitehead, B.M., Boschee, B.F. (2012).)
Characteristics of the Taught Curriculum?
 Teachers are the chief implementers of curriculum
 Taking the students into consideration, teachers decide
how to achieve the intended learning outcomes.
 Teachers decide the distribution of time to a
particular activity/content.
 Less predictable and less standardized type of
curriculum.
Characteristics of the Taught Curriculum
•Itcan change based on the types of tools teachers have at
their disposal.
•How a teacher delivers material depends on Teaching Style
of the teacher.
• This can include experiments, demonstrations and other
types of engagement through group work and hands-on
activities.
•Taught curriculum is extremely critical for students in
special education or those who require another kind of
specialized support.
Goals of the Curriculum
The NCF presents several general goals of the curriculum
which are basically to implement the SDG-4. For this
presentation, however, we will focus on Goals number 3 and
4…

 3. The Curriculum ensures that the school is a valorised and

transformative space that sets the foundation for creativity, self-
expression and sharing

 4. The Curriculum promotes a joy for learning and a sense of well-

being;
 Explain how this part of the curriculum enables you to infuse
General Goals 3 & 4 of the NCF in your teaching.

 By definition, the Taught Curriculum is that part of the curriculum that is

actually delivered by the teacher to the students.
 Teachers being the chief implementers of curriculum take the major
decisions of HOW, WHEN and WHERE the activities/contents are
delivered by taking into consideration their students. The teachers get to
decide on the tools and teaching styles to achieve the intended learning
outcomes. This gives a sense of well-being to the teachers and students.
 In the taught curriculum, the teacher uses a holistic approach. Indeed,
the fact that the teacher is free to include experiments, demonstrations
and other types of engagement through group work and hands-on
activities ensures that the school is a valorised and transformative space
that sets the foundation for creativity, self-expression and sharing.
