SOCIAL MEDIA
As we know…
Media has been around for ages – from the early days of cave paintings to today’s mass media
channels. Throughout history, there have been major changes in the way that media is produced
and consumed.

THE EVOLUTION OF MEDIA

 The great media revolution came with the invention of
the printing press in the 15th century, which led to
mass production of books and an increase in literacy
rates.

 Later, in the early 20th century,

the rise of radio brought a new
form of communication that could
reach a mass audience.

 The development of television in

the mid-20th century brought
about yet another revolution in
media.
But…
 The bombastic evolution in the media
happened with the invention of the
internet at the end of the 20th
century, which allowed people to
communicate in new ways, such as
through e-mails, blogs and social
networks, allowing them to connect
and share information on a large
scale.

on a large scale.
The advent of computers brought a new kind of
screen time. People can now work and play on
their computers for hours on end. The internet
made it possible to connect with others from all
over the world.
The Age of Smartphones
Smartphones have changed the way we
consume media. We can now watch
videos, listen to music, and scroll
through social media all on one device.
Notifications keep us constantly
connected to the world.

INCREASED CONSUMPTION OF THE NEW MEDIA IN TEENS
The invention of the internet combined with the evolution of technology in recent decades has
completely changed the consumption and relationship of teens with the media, causing a great
impact on their behavior and lifestyle.

Teenagers today are consuming media at

an unprecedented rate, with the average
teenager spending over 7 hours a day on
their devices. Social media, streaming
services, and online gaming are among
the most popular activities.
Before the advent of the internet and new technologies, teenagers used to communicate and
socialize with friends "face to face" and spend time together in the "real world".
Nowadays teenagers live in a “virtual” world, where platforms such as
Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter and online gaming sites allow
them to share their lives and connect with friends on a global scale,
which is the main way of communication between them.
Many of the discipline problems in the classroom, lack of concentration, drowsiness,
irritability, mood swings, are due to using the cell phone too late, which prevents the
necessary rest.

media is often consumed actively.

ADVANTAGES AND DISAVANTAGES OF
TRADICIONAL AND NEW MEDIA

TRADITIONAL MEDIA:
Has the advantage of being well-established and having a wide reach. It also generally has
more credibility than new media, as it is seen as being more trustworthy and less biased.
However, traditional media can be quite expensive to produce and distribute, and it can be
difficult to target a specific audience.

NEW MEDIA:
New media has the advantage of being more affordable and easier to produce and distribute.
It is also more accessible, as people can access it from anywhere in the world with an Internet
connection. Additionally, new media is often more engaging than traditional media, as it
encourages active participation and interaction. However, new media can sometimes be seen as
less credible than traditional media, as anyone can produce and distribute it.
The advancement of tecnologies makes young people spend more and more time in front of a screen.
