Establishment History And Background


 The official founding date of the German motor vehicle manufacturer BMW is 7 March 1916,
when an aircraft producer called Bayerische Flugzeugwerke (formerly Otto
Flugmaschinenfabrik) was established. This company was renamed to Bayerische Motoren
Werke (BMW) in 1922. However, the BMW name dates back to 1917, when Rapp
Motorenwerke changed its name to Bayerische Motoren Werke.
 BMW has been one of the most active and successful brands in motor sport from day one,
notching up countless victories and records on two, three and four wheels.

HISTORY
• BMW was founded in 1913 to manufactuer aircraft engines in Munich.
• In 1928,BMW set up a car manufacturing unit and started manufacturing a small
car called ‘DIXI’.
• It was BMW’s first car and was marketed under the name BMW 3/15.
• BMW has been one of the most active and successful brands in motor sport from
day one, notching up countless victories and records on two, three and four
wheels.

Reasons for changing production location
outside of Germany
Geographical factors need to be examined because thousands of automobile parts
needed to be delivered from both Domestic and Foreign Suppliers. In order to keep
the Supply Chain cost down, it was decided that the new location should have ample
interstate excess and must be reasonably close to a port from which both supplies and
automobiles could be easily transported.
