JOHN 2:5

“But his mother told the servants, ‘Do

whatever he tells you.’”

JOHN 2:5 (NLT)

INTRODUCTIO
N

God always wants to perform miracles

among His people. In Him all things are
possible (Matt. 19:26, Luke 18:27).

If we fully obey divine instructions,

miracles follow. Partial obedience is as bad
as outright disobedience.
INTRODUCTIO
N

Sometimes, the instructions are ridiculous

or illogical.

If we want to experience a miracle, obey

divine instructions fully, no matter how
foolish it appears.

Don’t be wise in your own eyes (Prov. 3:7).

INTRODUCTIO
N

At the wedding in Cana of Galilee attended

by Jesus, the wine finished.

“His mother said to the servants,

‘Whatever He says to you, do it.’” (John
2:5) The servants followed the instruction
Jesus gave them. Later the master of the
feast tasted the water that was made wine,
and described it as the best wine, not
knowing where it came from.
INTRODUCTIO
N

If you diligently obey the voice of the

Lord, you will soon share the testimonies
of your miracles.

“If you’re willing and obedient, you shall

eat the good of the land” (Isa. 1:19).
ILLUSTRATIO
N

There were many miracles performed by

God through His servants, prophets and
apostles in the Old and New Testament.
Here are some of those miracles:
ILLUSTRATIO
N

• King Jehoshaphat - three nations came

to fight against Judah and by the Spirit of
the LORD, Jahaziel the son of Zechariah
had prophesied victory for Judah (2
Chro. 20:17). On the strength of this
prophecy, Jehoshaphat encouraged the
people of Judah (2 Chro. 20:20).
ILLUSTRATIO
N

• Prophet Elisha gave the widow his

instructions (2 Kings 4:3-4).
The widow obeyed the instructions and
experienced a miracle. All the vessels she had
borrowed were filled with oil from just the only
jar of oil she had at home. The oil stopped
flowing when there were no more empty vessels.
ILLUSTRATIO
N

• The widow of Zarephath, in 1 Kings 17:8-

16, who enjoyed supernatural provision of
food throughout the period of famine because
she obeyed the instruction of the prophet
Elijah to make bread for him first from the
flour she had left.
ILLUSTRATIO
N

• The supernatural catch of fish by Peter. He

had toiled throughout the night without
catching any fish. Jesus said to him, “Launch
out into the deep and let down your nets for a
catch” (Luke 5:4). The instruction didn’t
make sense but Peter experienced the miracle
because he obeyed (Luke 5:5-8).
APPLICATION

Why is obedience necessary to receive

miracles?

1. Jesus Calls Us to Obey. (John 14:15)

Our motivation for obedience is
love: “If you love me, obey my
commandments”.
APPLICATION

2. God Rewards Obedience

Over and over again we read in the
Bible that God blesses and rewards
obedience. (Gen. 22:18, Luke 11:28,
James 1:22–25)
APPLICATION

3. Obedience to God Demonstrates

Faith. (1John 2:3-6)

A. Trust in God’s Holy Spirit to guide you

as you stand against fear, knowing that
the battle for your miracle belongs to
the Lord: (2 Chro. 20:15)
B. Worship God for giving you the miracle
you need and praise Him before you see
the victory.
